The iPod touch has proved very popular Christmas gift, according to data from a mobile advertising network.
AdMob said that in the United Kingdom, a fourfold increase in the use of the Internet through the iPod touch owners in December. The United States, Canada, Germany and Australia were also more than 300% increase.
The largest increase was on Christmas Day. “IPod Touch AdMob hits on the network exploded on December 25,” says AdMob Mobile Metrics Report for the month of December 2008. “Amazingly, iPod Touch requests doubled to over Christmas and stayed while the rest of the month.”
AdMob also notes that the iPhone continue to snare a larger share of mobile Internet usage of smartphones.
“Symbian is still the number one worldwide OS with 41% of the shares and more than 90% in Africa and Asia, but the iPhone is a challenge in Latin America and Europe. The iPhone OS is already on the RIM OS and Windows Mobile combined “says the report. “In the U.S., the iPhone OS generates 48% of smartphone applications in December, from only 9% in May 2008.”
